I really have nothing against Alex Rodriguez
except for the fact that he has a contract the size of Bangladesh's GDP. But as he's putting up gaudy numbers (.351 average, 10 home runs, 26 RBIs), shouldn't we be reminding ourselves that it's only April? Baseball Tonight seems prepared to end the season now and hand A-Rod the MVP. A-Rod has had a history of doing well early in the season, only to lay a huge egg in the playoffs. Great players like Rodriguez are paid a ton to produce in the postseason. Even though Barry Bonds will probably never win a World Series and was a long time playoff choker, he turned that all around in 2002 when he nearly single-handedly won the Series and should have been named the MVP even though he was on the losing team. Rodriguez, meanwhile, since he dawned a Yankees uniform has hit a paltry .240 in the playoffs with only 3 home runs and 8 RBIs in 79 at bats. And if you only look at his last two postseasons, he's been horrific (.103 average, no home runs, no RBIs). When it's all said and done, A-Rod probably will be the greatest
non-steroid using player of all time. But don't be fooled by what he's doing now. He's done it before. This time he better do it in the playoffs.
