You're probably asking yourself right now, Why in the hell does Bob Uecker have his arm around a furry?
Well, it turns out that this past week the Brewers had a three game tilt in Pittsburgh and the hotel that they stayed at was the home base of Anthrocon 2007 - the largest furry convention in the free world. It's going on from July 5-8. Even more hilarious is that furries are sometimes referred to as "furverts."
Here's an excerpt from Brewers broadcaster Jim Powell's take on the whole thing:
- For those of us that had no knowledge of these types of people, it was kind of like being dropped into the middle of a "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" movie. The lobby was packed with human beings dressed in various animal costumes. Going up the elevator is unsettling when you are packed in with a bunch of people who look like they hadn't left their mother's basements since the last convention. Virtually everyone, even those who looked otherwise "normal", had a tail sticking out of their clothes in the back. Players and staff reported neighboring rooms generating loud animal noises, barking and other, deep into the night. At first it was kind of funny to see these people wandering around the downtown streets and filing into the hotel, but after the novelty wore off it just made everyone feel creepy.
Meanwhile, word must have gotten out to the Cubs, who are in town playing the Pirates this weekend. They chose not to stay in the hotel. Probably a good call, since furries can get a little frisky.
Damn furverts. Get a room.
