I'm one of the few people on earth who seems to get Versus, and even I didn't watch any of the NHL playoffs or Finals. Were the Finals even on Versus? They were on some major network for at least a game or two weren't they? Well whatever, I didn't watch, and apparently from the ratings, no one else did either. On PTI they said reruns of Mama's House beat the NHL Finals in ratings one night. Yikes. Another bad sign for hockey, I couldn't find a recent NHL Finals picture on the net so I just put up this pic of the Stanley Cup.
But anyway, we did have a California team win, so let's give it up for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks of Greater Los Angeles and South Central Ventura County - or whatever their full name is.
Does anyone else ever find it strange as well that the NHL playoffs go on into June and we have teams playing from areas like Southern California and Florida? This just strikes me as odd. And hockey wonders why it has problems. Would I rather go to the beach or into a cold arena with no sunlight?
I think we all know the answer that one.
And after the pathetic ratings for this Finals and these playoffs, and having a game get canned for the Preakness, I can't help but wonder where hockey's going to go from here. No where important it seems. Which is too bad, because the Stanley Cup is the best trophy in professional sports. It deserves more respect. Maybe we can switch it for the Super Bowl Trophy when no is looking.
