Okay, Lebron's first game in the NBA Finals probably did not go as well as he had hoped... but that being said, he almost cut the score to 5 with 2 minutes left in the 4th in San Antonio in Game 1 after he laid an egg for the first 40 minutes. This has to be somewhat encouraging for Cavs fans because imagine if Lebron actually played well in that game, they would definitely have had a shot and they really just need to try to get one of these first 2 in San Antonio to stand a chance in this series. The problem is that by getting close at the end there, San Antonio probably had a realization that, whoa, if we fall asleep on these guys they may actually win a couple games we didn't expect them to. If they had just swept out at the end they may have no concept that this Cavs team could actually play with them, even on their homecourt. But, with the realization the Cavs have the ability to catch up even down double-digits is just going to make the Spurs all the more cautious in Game 2. While I would like to say the Cavs have a shot, I think their only hope was lulling San Antonio into a false sense of security in Game 1 and playing to perfection in Game 2 to steal a game in San Antonio.
Not to take anything away from San Antonio, they are a very strong team absolutely designed to win Championships in the current manifestation of the NBA, but I still hate watching them play and no matter what anyone says to convince me otherwise they are simpy not a fun team to watch. I catch more than my fair share of NBA basketball, but I can not remember the last time I actually enjoyed watching the Spurs play basketball. Are they effective? Absolutely. But if they were coming to town, would I go out of my way to see them in person? Hell no. Honestly, if the Warriors and Suns were playing random exhibition games against each other for charity right now at the same time that the NBA finals were on, would anyone be watching the Finals? Not a chance. I'll bet even Spurs and Cavs fans would be watching Suns-Warriors right now. So, enjoy the rest of the Finals, I know I will be, but can't help but think what could have been (Warriors, Warriors, Warriors...).
